NAME OF PROJECT:
PROJECT FOR 2235 HANA HWY
View of the living room towards the kitchen and dining area.
Maliko1 is a project for a spec house and has been designed bearing in mind that there is a need to sell “hawaii“ and a house that coexists with the exterior and its surroundings. The solution adopted was to design a polynesian/ bali type of roof with a modern interior. Measuring 2450 ft2, the main dwelling has 3 bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms, a very large kitchen/dining space separated from the living separated from the living.
The main entrance will be composed of an aluminum veneered door and this metal and wood bridge that is "flying“ in the air above the planter/zen garden and connects the bedrooms and living with the dining/kitchen space. This interior planter will be covered with black crushed lava rock with some plants and landscaping lighting.
A prominent black lava rock splits the house in two, leaving on one side bedrooms and bathrooms and on the other the spacious living room and dining space. The south facade of the project is composed of folding glass doors, providing an incredible view to the pacific ocean.

STUDY MODEL (south elevation)
The 8ft roof overhang generates a large covered space on the outside deck protecting it from rain and wind, while the swimming pool has been placed to capture as much sun as possible.
The design and position of the house on the lot has taken into account the trade winds and sun path in order to be the most energy efficient.
